The First Day of School
I wanted to share with all of you some thoughts that my brother wrote this morning. These were some very kind and well thought out words. My brother is a great uncle to our children! (And a good brother too!)

Where does the time go? 6 years ago this week, Avery came into this world. And today, under the watchful eye of her mom and dad, little sister, grandmother and D-dad, their neighbor Kenneth and Uncle Stew, Avery took her first step into an exciting new challenge and opportunity: kindergarten.

Where does the time go? It didn’t slow down. But, it sure felt like it sped up…a lot! There were the laundry basket races in the living room (don’t tell her mom about that), her first Rangers game, learning about Snoopy and the magic of Disney, holiday trips and vacations. She’s already experienced a lot in 5 years and 362 days. And there will be many more experiences and learning opportunities.
As I rushed out of work this morning to make it to see my niece off to her first day at public school, I couldn’t help but notice the sunrise. It was a brilliant orange sun paired with an infinite blue sky. There wasn’t a cloud anywhere. How appropriate. The first day of school and a new adventure. The opportunities and possibilities are as limitless as the blue sky that I was witnessing. And time keeps on moving.

I couldn’t help but think about Avery’s mommy and daddy. They’re dedicated to making sure their child makes good and right decisions. They make time to ensure those lessons are taught early in life. And if they’re not around, Avery’s got a good-sized group of grandparents, uncles and aunts, other relatives and friends to ensure that good lessons and God are taught. Time shouldn’t get in the way.

Now, the next chapter of Avery’s life is officially underway. Teachers will spend time to make sure she gets a good education. And hopefully she will learn a lesson that many of us will be reminded of every day, time is the most valuable commodity out there. Every single second is gone and we can’t get it back. So how are we going to use the time that we’ve been blessed with?

Very touching. Your kids are obviously blessed with some amazing family. I’m sure you don’t, but just as a reminder, don’t ever take that fact for granted! Take care.
Thanks Josh! You are correct…we always give thanks for our family. They are all an amazing blessing.
I loved this post on the first day of school. You are oh so right in how fast the time goes by. I hope you all savor every minute!
Thanks Kathy! It was a fun day. I know that my wife and I were more nervous than our daughter was. It is nice to know she is in good hands at her school.
