Interesting Reads: Favorite Things Friday
After several very expensive “Favorite Things Friday” posts, I figured I had better mellow things out a bit. I don’t know about you but I have a collection of blogs that I follow which keep me informed and inspired. I have been collecting some highlights from the last two weeks of reading and wanted to share them with you. By the way, I now use Feedly to stay up to date with all my reading in one place. I REALLY miss Google Reader and still can’t believe they shut it down.
The 16 Best Things About iOS7 – Mashable
Mashable is one of my favorite ‘big’ sites that combines tech with social media. This collection of tips and tricks for the new Apple mobile operating system was very informative. I wasn’t aware of several of the changes mentioned in this brief article.
The Surprising S Word That Terrifies Us – Jon Acuff
I really appreciate the writing of Jon Acuff. My appreciation of him goes beyond the fact that he spells his name correctly and is related to country music legend Roy Acuff. Jon is an inspiring and though-provoking author. If you want to find out what the surprising S word is, you’ll have to click the link above.
Work While Walking – WorkWhileWalking.com
This week I was contacted by Seattle based non-profit Work While Walking. They are working to promote treadmill desks and standing desks. They will be providing some of their research for future posts on my other site DIYTreadmillDesk.com. I will be doing some guest posting for their site. They found me on Google. My site was #1 in their search for DIY treadmill desks.
Brown Sugar Pumpkin Cheesecake – I Heart Naptime
Why yes, I did follow my treadmill desk post with a post about cheesecake. I am unashamed of my subscription to many ‘mom’ blogs and crafting blogs. Makes me a better Dad for little girls and my wife enjoys the things I find on those sites too. This recipe looks great for the Fall.
The Joys of Working From Home – Aspiring Blogger
My fellow blogger AB compares the highlights and drawbacks of working from home as opposed to the office. Some interesting insights from his work as a consultant.
Grub and Grit – Farmhouse 38
Anyone that believes I spoil my backyard chickens needs to read this post. My chickens are living in a slum compared to these California chickens. You might also want to check out her post about building the new coop.
Clara’s Canopy – Young House Love
The couple that writes Young House Love is amazing! I don’t know how they come up with the constant flow of ideas for their site. This canopy idea for their little girls bed would be a great addition to any little girls bedroom.
Printable Football Scavenger Hunt – Celebrate Everyday With Me
This is a great simple idea to keep young children engaged a little bit longer at a sporting event. My oldest daughter loves a good scavenger hunt and this would be a great fit for her.
Silhouette Tutorial: Sketch Pens – Lori Whitlock
Last week I wrote about the Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter that we use. I briefly mentioned the sketch pen feature but didn’t demonstrate it. This detailed tutorial walks the user through a project that will help them master this function of the Cameo.
That’s a few of my interesting reads from the last week or two. What have you read online that was interesting to you? Share in the comments below…
Hey Jon, thanks for the shout out! Of course, I’m writing to you from my home office! I’m still struggling without Google Reader. Feedly is decent – but it’s no substitute. Oh well – I guess we have to move on with our lives! Have a great weekend!
AB
Hey AB… I think the biggest problem I am having with the RSS transition is getting in a routine. I now consume my reading list in 1 or 2 big chunks a week instead of little bits throughout the day. Feedly just isn’t as friendly to read. Great post!
