Dinnertime Devotionals
I am excited to kick off a new series of family devotionals for 2014! I believe that the Family Worship Series of 2013 was a good effort and I know that it helped many, but I hope that the Dinnertime Devotionals will be even more helpful to more families.
All of our families live at an amazingly busy pace. A good number of us try our best to sit down and have a meal together at least 4 or 5 nights a week. Many families enjoy fun conversations during dinnertime but other families can struggle to find things to talk about. I give you the Dinnertime Devotionals series as a ‘seed’ to start conversation with your family.
Every Tuesday of 2014 I will publish a one-page devotional series with verses and ideas for 5 different meals. I have little kids at home so I have junior discussion starters intended for kids in the elementary age range. The ‘discussion starter’ ideas are intended for families with middle school or high school age children. Feel free to pick and choose the ideas that work best for your family.
Find a time that works best for your family. Perhaps you have your Bible discussion while you eat dinner and talk about your day. Or having the discussion following dinner might work better for your clan. Still others might want to do it at bedtime or another convenient moment. There is no bad time to study the Bible with your family. Each of these quick devotional thoughts will probably only last 5 minutes or so, but it might spark a conversation in your family that will make a lifelong change.
Some might view Bible study as a ‘grand production’ that takes a lot of effort to happen. With the Dinnertime Devotionals series I am hoping to break down that barrier and help my family and yours live out the words of Deuteronomy 6:7 where we are told to teach God’s word to our children “when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
God bless you in your efforts to teach the Bible to your children. You can find week 1 here – Dinnertime Devotionals – Week 1.
